Boer War Honour Boards 1903

In 1884 Tāwhiao, leader of the Waikato tribes, travelled to London to personally petition Queen Victoria monarch to monarch for the return of unfairly confiscated. His demands were rejected but some gifts were made and this Swiss music box was one of them.  The centre of the marquetry pattern in the top was damaged and missing as well as much woodworm damage to the carcase.  After much research I resolved the pattern of the guitar in the central design and carried out the repairs on this historic object.  Legendary music box collector Rod Cornelius cleaned and restored the cylinder and mechanism.
