Rosewood Piano 19TH C
This piano needed refinishing after subject to flooding as well as the finish being ruined by the strong NZ sunlight.
The piano was fully dismantled and then a hand shellac finish. Exposure to sunlight means rosewood goes through a huge colour shift from its original deep purple-brown to a bland beige, so refinishing can present problems where a part of the piano -hidden from the light - is still a rich dark colour and other parts a bland beige. This is why careful hand finishing and colouring appropriate to each area of the piano can make big difference to the overall result.
